Learning and Skills Council
NATIONWIDE OPPORTUNITIES AT THE LEARNING & SKILLS COUNCIL
The LSC exists to make England better skilled and more competitive. The LSC has a single goal which is to improve the skills of England’s young people and adults to ensure we have a workforce of world class standard.
We are responsible for planning and funding high quality education and training for everyone in England other than those is universities. We have a national office in Coventry and nine regional offices overseeing the work of local partnership teams throughout the county.
We passionately believe that learning isn't a privilege, it's a right for everyone, that's why we are currently expanding our apprenticeship programmes with an extra 10,000 apprenticeship starts for 2006-07 and approximately 220,000 learners enrolled on Train to Gain.
As an employer we are equally committed to achieving disability equality. LSC Chairman Chris Banks leads us in this commitment as the Disability Equality Duty Champion. In April 2007 following extensive consultations with disabled people we published our Single Equality Scheme within which our Disability Equality Scheme is subsumed.
In 2006 we were awarded the "Two Ticks" Positive about Disability symbol as a unitary organisation. We have taken many innovative steps to ensure that disabled people can fulfil key roles within our organisation. Examples of some adjustments are; 19” TFT monitors verbal indication in lifts and hearing loops in many of our meeting rooms. We also recently achieved a silver award in the 2007 Employers Forum on Disability benchmarking survey.
In January 2008 we signed up to the Mindful Employer charter, demonstrating our commitment to being positive about mental health in the workplace.
