Stop Hate UK
Volunteer Operators needed for the
Stop Hate Line
What is the Stop Hate Line?
The Stop Hate Line provides 24-hour support for anyone affected by any Hate Crime. A Hate Crime is any behaviour that someone thinks was caused by hatred of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability. By phoning 0800 138 1625 victims or witnesses can talk to operators at any time of day or night and receive information and help.
The Stop Hate Line currently operates in English. Speakers of other languages can leave their details and be called back by an interpreter.
What do volunteer operators do?
-
Operators must be able to speak English clearly, and be confident in dealing with callers in a sensitive and professional manner.
-
Operators are expected to listen to the caller, write down all details of the call, and offer information about actions that the caller can take and agencies that can offer help.
-
After taking a call, operators submit all call details to Stop Hate UK, so that further support can be provided for the caller.
Where would I volunteer from?
Operators can log in from any landline, whether at home or at work. Training currently takes place in Leeds, but operators do not have to be based in Leeds.
What does Stop Hate UK offer volunteer operators?
-
Ongoing training and support will be offered to Stop Hate Line operators by Stop Hate UK.
-
Expenses incurred whilst volunteering as a Stop Hate Line operator will be reimbursed by Stop Hate UK, in accordance with their expenses policy.
When are the next training sessions?
-
The next available sessions are on:
Saturday 14 June 2008, 10am to 4:30pm
Saturday 12 July 2008, 10am to 4:30pm
-
Training is also held during the week if needed – please contact Stop Hate UK for further details.
How much time would I need to give?
-
Operators are required to work on a flexible rota basis to ensure that the helpline is covered 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
-
Operators can work for as many hours per week or month as they choose – but total commitment is vital in order to ensure that the line can operate successfully.
