How the Centre for Diversity defines Diversity
At its most basic level, diverse means different. Every person is different but every person matters - especially at work. It therefore follows that diversity is about anyone and everyone.
Mission
To encourage and enable organisations to adopt and develop behaviours and practices which promote inclusion, equality, diversity, and achievement.
Aims
- To raise awareness about the benefits of inclusive practices in the work place.
- To support organisations in how they manage diversity and inclusion.
- To synthesise, assess and share good practice in the field of diversity and inclusion.
- Develop and disseminate new and innovative approaches to diversity and inclusion.
Underpinning Beliefs
The National Centre for Diversity believes because everyone is different, diversity should not be seen as a peripheral issue about people from minorities as it has been in the past. It is a mainstream issue and it should be understood in that context.
We all hold unique perspectives on work and consequently we all have different issues. Making sense of and including these perspectives in organisational development strategies could lead to, hitherto, unknown and untold potential organisational opportunities which can propel organisations forward.
Conversely, not doing so can lead to challenges, which, until overcome, hold back organisations from achieving their full potential and can and indeed, often do, cause serious difficulties, which drain the energy and resources of organisations.
