Biography

Psychology graduate, with a fifteen years history, working in local government, civil service departments and large bureaucratic organisations, core elements of my role was to identify and review issues, which required investment of resources and action to promote equality and reduce discrimination.

Hence my previous posts have been in the main, working within the national legislative framework to promote the social inclusion of "hard to reach communities”.  Managing projects which tackled exclusion, isolation, sexism, racisms, and fascism, whereby differences and similarities are valued and respected. I worked in reference to the duties laid out in the related Acts, listened to these communities, identified barriers to equality through regular monitoring and assessment of polices and practice, and implemented changes to these by working in partnership with relevant key agencies within the private, statutory, community, voluntary and faith sector.

I firmly believe, the issues of discrimination on the grounds of race, are somewhat similar to those facing people of disability. I have experienced over time that there is very little in the way of equality of opportunity for many minority groups including disabled. This cuts across the whole spectrum of, social inclusion. For disabled people, society also discriminates from a social perspective, in that societal structures indirectly discrimination against this minority group causing adverse affect which restricts their inclusion into mainstream society, impacting on their quality of life with regards to work, personal, emotional, and social aspects of their life. Hence it is my inspiration that drives my aspiration for justice which motivates me to ensure the 'voice' of this minority group is equally represented ensuring the different needs, rights are promoted in a positive light advocating equality for opportunity and fairness for all.

Furthermore I am a self-motivated person with a drive to succeed. I thrive on a challenge; I have in my work history demonstrated a consistent commitment to ensuring diversity is positively valued. Developing self-starting projects with positive results for minority groups.
