Biography

Paul Willgoss has both a congenital and an acquired disability, both of which are non-apparent.  He is a career Civil Servant, and has worked in regulatory, scientific and corporate services areas of the Health and Safety Executive.  He has been responsible for HR policy development and application in areas such as managing attendance. 

He is currently a research manager within the Nuclear Safety Directorate, as well as chairing HSE’s own staff network for disabled staff – Equal. 

He was a bursar on the Disabled Civil Servants Leadership Development programme and through this set up and became the first Chair of Civil Service Disability Network.  In this role, he helped Cabinet Office produce guidance on reasonable adjustments, the use of disabled role models and reviewed the training and development programmes specifically aimed at disabled civil servants.  He also worked closely with the Civil Service Race Equality Network and had the privilege of speaking at their first conference.

He also is heavily involved in the national charity for people born with heart conditions, GUCH, and has served on their Management Committee for the last 10 years.  Currently he is responsible for building stronger relationships with associated charities in the UK and is also is a member of the European Steering Group for such charities.

In 2006, He was a runner-up in the Leadership category in the Civil Service Diversity and Equality Awards.

Outside of work and charity activities, Paul is a keen walker and is learning to climb. He also reads extensively and enjoys travelling and combining all of his hobbies with a passion for photography.
